Sometimes you don't want a Reserva that needs two hours of decanting and an instruction manual to understand. Sometimes you just want a damn good wine that tastes like it's supposed to.
For that purpose, Rubén Iglesias created Vegantigua.
It's the winery's most "rebellious" wine. It comes from vineyards between 15 and 25 years old. At that age, the vines have an energy and freshness you don't find in century-old vines. It's pure vitality in a bottle.
What makes it different from a supermarket Ribera?
Most wines in this price range are mass-produced, made to all taste the same. Vegantigua pasa 6 months in French and American oak barrels. It's the perfect time to give it structure and that subtle toasty touch, but letting the Tempranillo grape be the true boss.
What you will find:
A deep red color with violet hues that hints at its youth. On the nose, it's an explosion of fresh red fruit. On the palate, it's lively, yet full-bodied enough to make you forget what you're drinking. It's well-balanced and has that lingering finish that makes you think, "Hey, at this price, this is a steal.".
Victor and Pablo have it at Vinocalidad because they know that not every day is for celebrating an anniversary, but every day you deserve to drink something other than "colored water".
A friendly piece of advice:
It's the kind of wine you buy by the case because it sells out so fast. Whether you're having a barbecue, a spontaneous dinner party, or just fancy a glass while watching a show, always keep a bottle of Vegantigua on hand. Just don't rely on the stock: it's a favorite among those who know that quality isn't always tied to a €50 price tag.
